Abstract

This study examined the level of foreign language learning anxiety among 120 Chinese undergraduate students, and examined the relationship between the foreign language learning anxiety of the students and their English learning achievement. The research instrument in this study used the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scales (FLCAS). Mean, SD, and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient were employed to analyze the data. The results indicated that the anxiety level of the students regarding foreign language learning was moderate. The majority of students suffer from a moderate level of anxiety in their English leaning process with a mean of 3.08 (SD = .39). Among them, students with English scores below CET-4 are at a moderate level of learning anxiety with a mean of 3.25 (SD = .37). Students with English scores CET-4 and CET-6 are also at a moderate level of learning anxiety with a mean of 3.20 (SD = .37). In addition, there was a negative relationship between the anxiety level of the students regarding foreign language learning and English learning achievement (r = -.517, p < .01).
