Abstract

The aims of the research aims are as follows: (1) to study the resilience of vocational student; (2) to compare the resilience of vocational students in the experimental group before and after participation in group counseling; (3) to compare the difference of resilience of vocational students in the control and experimental groups before and after participation in group counseling. The study subjects were grade one to grade three students in Tongren Early Childhood Normal College, Guizhou Province, with a total of 150 students. The 20 students were divided by random assignment into an experimental and a control group, with 10 students in each group. The present study is a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test resilience assessment. The experimental group received eight group counseling sessions to enhance mental toughness, while the control group did not receive group counseling. The results were analyzed using descriptive analysis in statistical analysis and paired sample t-test. The results showed the following: (1) the resilience of vocational students was a low-level score; (2) the resilience of the experimental group was significantly enhanced (t=12.324, p< .001), and 3) the level of psychological resilience of the experimental group was enhanced from 44.25 to 55.1, while the psychological resilience of the control group had no significant change.
