FACTORS AFFECTING CHINESE STUDENTS' DECISIONTO STUDY FURTHER THAI LANGUAGE COURSE IN HIGHER EDUCATIONINSTITUTIONS IN THE UPPER NORTHERN REGION

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate: (1) the factors influencing the decision of Chinese students to pursue undergraduate studies in Thai language programs at higher education institutions in the Upper Northern Region of Thailand; and (2) the relationship between educational factors and the decision-making process of these students. The research sample consisted of 2,067 Chinese students enrolled in Thai language programs in higher education institutions within the designated region. Given that the exact population size was known, the sample size was determined using Taro Yamane’s formula, with a margin of error set at 5%. Consequently, the calculated sample size was 335 participants.Data were collected through a structured questionnaire comprising close-ended questions and a five-point Likert scale. The statistical tools employed for data analysis included frequency, mean, percentage, and standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested using t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson’s simple correlation coefficient. The findings reveal the following: 1. Personal factors—such as age, year of study, city/province of origin, and duration of Thai language study—significantly influenced the students’ decisions to pursue undergraduate education in Thai language programs. 2. Institutional factors had a statistically significant influence on the decision-making process at the 0.01 level. 3. Family-related factors were also found to have a statistically significant impact at the 0.01 level. 4. Financial considerations significantly affected the students’ decisions at the 0.01 level. 5. Curriculum-related factors did not have a significant effect on the decision to pursue undergraduate study. 6. Social acceptance was found to significantly influence decision-making at the 0.01 level. 7. Career-related factors did not significantly impact the students’ educational choices.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษา 1)ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน และ 2)เพื่อศึษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างปัจจัยการศึกษากับการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการวิจัยครั้งนี้คือ นักศึกษาจีนที่ศึกษาหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาเขตภาคเหนือตอนบนของประเทศไทย มีจำนวน 2,067 คน เนื่องจากทราบจำนวนประชากรที่แน่นอน ผู้วิจัยจึงกำหนดขนาดกลุ่มตัวอย่างโดย ใช้สูตรการคำนวณหากลุ่มตัวอย่างของ ทาโร ยามาเน่ และ กำหนดค่าความคาดเคลื่อนขนาดกลุ่มตัวอย่าง 5% ดังนั้นขนาดของกลุ่มตัวอย่างสำหรับการวิจัยในครั้งนี้ เท่ากับ 335 คน โดยใช้แบบสอบถามแบบปลายปิด (Close-Ended Response Question) และคำถามแบบมาตราส่วนประมาณค่า 5 ระดับ (Rating scale) ตามรูปแบบของ Likert’s scaleเป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ค่าความถี่ ค่าเฉลี่ย ค่าร้อยละ และค่าเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน ทดสอบสมมติฐานด้วยการทดสอบค่าที การวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนทางเดียว และการวิเคราะความสัมพันธ์โดยใช้ค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์อย่างง่ายของเพียร์สัน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1)ปัจจัยส่วนบุคคล อายุ ชั้นปี เมือง/มณฑล เรียนภาษาไทยมาแล้วกี่ปี แตกต่างกันมีการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีหลักสูตรภาษาไทยแตกต่างกัน 2)ปัจจัยด้านสถาบันการศึกษา มีผลต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ ระดับ 0.01 3)ปัจจัยด้านครอบครัว มีผลต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ ระดับ 0.01 4)ปัจจัยด้านการเงินมีผลต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ ระดับ 0.01 5)ปัจจัยด้านหลักสูตรไม่มีผลต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน 6)ปัจจัยด้านการยอมรับจากสังคมมีผลต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติที่ ระดับ 0.01 และ7)ปัจจัยด้านอาชีพไม่มีผลต่อการตัดสินใจเลือกศึกษาต่อระดับปริญญาตรีของนักศึกษาจีนหลักสูตรภาษาไทยในสถาบันอุดมศึกษาภาคเหนือตอนบน
