Abstract: | The aims of this research are as follows: (1) to study the definition and components of learning motivation of junior high school students; (2) to develop the Problem-Based Learning model for enhancing students’ learning motivation in junior high school; (3) to evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model for enhancing the learning motivation of junior high school students. The samples consisted of 66 junior high school students from Wuhan Steel City No. 2 Middle School that were randomized to the equally experimental and control groups. The experimental group (n=33) received the Problem-Based Learning model for enhancing learning motivation, but the control group was not. The following research results were obtained: (1) the learning motivation of students in junior high school consisted of three components: activation, persistence, and intensity; (2) the Problem-Based Learning model was developed and consisted of five steps: problem posing, task allocation, information collection, group presentation, and comprehensive evaluation. In addition, the Problem-Based Learning model consisted of 14 lesson plans, each lasting for 90-120 minutes; (3) the Problem-Based Learning model had the most potential in promoting the learning motivation of junior high school students, and the experimental group continued to show improvement at one-month follow-up period. - |
