THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHARACTER DESIGNFROM THAI LITERATURE INTO CARTOONS ON MARVEL COMICSCASE STUDY: THAI LITERATURE ON PHRA APAIMANEE

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study and develop character appearance designs from Thai literature into cartoons according to Marvel Comics guidelines, a case study of Thai literature on Phra Aphai Manee. The research objectives are (1) to study Marvel Comics character appearance design guidelines; (2) to develop character appearance design from Thai literature and with Rung Phra Aphai Manee as a cartoon image based on Marvel Comics guidelines; and (3) to identify consumer attitudes towards the appearance of characters from Thai literature. The research emphasizes the importance of the conservation of Thai literature through characters developed from the Marvel Comics character design approach to study a design approach that clearly reflects a heroic image, using five Marvel Comics characters: (1) Iron Man; (2) Captain America; (3) Spider Man; (4) Hulk; and (5) Thor, as a design approach. The results of the research concluded that the Marvel Comics characters used lines that were moving, colorful and easy to remember. Based on the Google Form, 100 children aged 4-6 years old and three experts in design and baby products found an interest in and an ability to learn about the characters through their colorful cartoon look. The character that inspired the highest level of satisfaction was a character like Phra Aphai Manee, who is handsome, uses sweet words and flirts. The color red represents a young man or a charming mermaid, with a delicate female structure. By using pink to represent women in love, the sea butterfly looks tough and strong, using purple to represent supernatural power and masculine strength. By using yellow to represent bright and cheerful optimism, the dragon jasper horse wears shiny armor. By using green, black, gray, white, and orange to contrast and create a slight highlight. In order to create color and to express power, there should be a development in the use of colored lines and adding uniqueness that represent Thai identity through the process of character creation from Marvel Comics as a guideline for the conservation and dissemination of Thai literature. In other matters, to be known by using cartoon media through business channels, products and baby products.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาละพัฒนาการออกแบบรูปลักษณ์ตัวละครจากวรรณคดีไทยเป็นภาพการ์ตูนตามแนวทางของมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ กรณีศึกษาวรรณคดีไทยเรื่องพระอภัยมณี โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ในการวิจัยคือ 1.เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางการออกแบบรูปลักษณ์ตัวละครของมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ 2.เพื่อพัฒนาการออกแบบรูปลักษณ์ตัวละครจากวรรณคดีไทยเริองพระอภัยมณีเป็นภาพการ์ตูนตามแนวทางของมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ 3.เพื่อทราบถึงทัศนคติของผู้บริโภคต่อรูปลักษณ์ตัวละครจากวรรณคดีไทยเป็นภาพการ์ตูนตามแนวทางของมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ กรณีศึกษาวรรณคดีไทยเรื่องพระอภัยมณี ซึ่งผู้วิจัยให้ความสำคัญของการอนุรักษ์วรรณคดีไทยผ่านตัวละครที่พัฒนามาจากแนวทางการออกแบบตัวการ์ตูนค่ายมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ มาศึกษาเป็นแนวทางในการออกแบบที่สะท้อนถึงภาพลักษณ์ความเป็นฮีโร่ได้เด่นชัด โดยนำตัวอย่างตัวการ์ตูนมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ 5 ตัวได้แก่ 1. Iron Man 2.Captain America 3. Spider Man 4. Hulk 5. Thor มาศึกษาเป็นแนวทางด้านการออกแบบ ผลการวิจัยสรุปว่าตัวการ์ตูนมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ มีการใช้เส้นที่มีความเคลื่อนไหว มีสีสันสดใส จดจำง่าย โดยผู้วิจัยได้นำผลการวิเคราะห์มาออกแบบตัวละครพระอภัยมณีเบื้องต้นแล้วนำไปสำรวจความพึงพอใจผ่านช่องทาง Google Form ผลปากฏว่าเด็กวัย 4-6 ปี จำนวน 100 คน และผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการออกแบบและผลิตภัณฑ์สำหรับเด็กจำนวน 3 คน พบว่าความสนใจและสามารถเรียนรู้จักตัวละครต่างๆผ่านรูปลักษณ์ตัวการ์ตูนที่มีสีสันสดใสและมีลักษณะท่าทางที่ดูเก่งกาจแสดงถึงความเป็นฮีโร่ ที่มีมีระดับความพึงพอใจมากที่สุดได้แก่ พระอภัยมณี มีรูปลักษณ์หล่อเหลา วาจาไพเราะและมีความเจ้าชู้ โดยใช้สีแดงเป็นตัวแทนแสดงถึงความเป็นชายหนุ่มเจ้าเสน่ห์ นางเงือก มีโครงสร้างของหญิงที่บอบบาง โดยใชสีชมพูเป็นตัวแทนของผู้หญิงที่มีความรัก ผีเสื้อสมุทร รูปลักษณ์มีร่างกายบึกบึน แข็งแรง โดยใช้สีม่วงแสดงถึงความมีอิทธิฤทธิ์ สุดสาคร เป็นตัวแทนของเด็กผู้ชายที่แข็งแรง โดยใช้สีเหลือง แสดงถึง ความสดใส ร่าเริง การมองโลกในแง่ดี ม้านิลมังกร เป็นม้าสวมชุดเกราะที่มีความมันวาว โดยใช้สีเขียว สีดำ และสีเทา ขาว ส้ม ให้มีความตัดกันและสร้างจุดเด่นของภาพเพียงเล็กน้อย เพื่อสร้างสีสันและเพื่อแสดงออกถึงความมีอิทธิฤทธิ์ ในด้านข้อเสนอแนะ ควรมีการพัฒนาทางด้านการใช้เส้น สี และการเพิ่มความเป็นเอกลักษณ์ที่แสดงถึงความเป็นไทยผ่านกระบวนการศึกษาการสร้างตัวละครจากการ์ตูนมาร์เวล คอมิกส์ เพื่อเป็นแนวทางในการอนุรักษ์และเผยแพร่วรรณคดีของไทยในเรื่องอื่นๆให้เป็นที่รู้จักโดยใช้สื่อตัวการ์ตูน ผ่านช่องทางธุรกิจสินค้าและผลิตภัณฑ์สำหรับเด็กต่อไป
