dc.description.abstractThis study aimed: (1) to study the definition and components of learning engagement among college students; (2) to develop a collaborative learning model for enhancing learning engagement; and (3) to evaluate the effectiveness of the collaborative learning model in doing so. The sample consisted of freshman students from Chongqing Normal University. The research employed learning engagement questionnaires and collaborative learning model focused on promoting learning engagement. Statistical analyses included mean, standard deviation (SD), and one-way repeated measures ANOVA. Fifty students participated voluntarily, with 25 randomly assigned to the experimental group and 25 to the control group. The results were as follows: (1) learning engagement among college students comprised three components: behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement; (2) a collaborative learning model was developed, consisting of four phases: lead-in, task assignment and guidance, group activities, and assessment & conclusion; (3) the collaborative learning model proved effective in enhancing learning engagement, with (3.1) a significant increase in learning engagement after the model was implemented and following the follow-up period (p < 0.05), and (3.2) a significant improvement in learning engagement compared to the control group (p < 0.05).en
