Abstract: This work presents the use of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles as an adsorbent for tetracycline detection. Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized by the co-precipitation method and characterized functional groups and pH at point of zero charge (Pzc) using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and the pH drift method, respectively. The effective parameters for tetracycline adsorption and desorption conditions, including pH, amount of magnetic nanoparticles, contact time, desorption solution, concentration and volume of desorption solution, and desorption time were investigated.  Under optimal conditions, the adsorption isotherm was well described by the Langmuir model showing a maximum adsorption capacity of 32.57 mg/g. For the study of reusability, Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles showed a high adsorption efficiency with good precision after the ninth cycle. The proposed method was successfully applied to adsorb tetracycline in real pharmaceutical matrix. The content of tetracycline using the developed method was 95.53% compared to the content on the drug label. This proposed method is simple, low-cost, environmentally friendly, and easy phase separation.
